About the event
The grapevine, Vitis, grows in most temperate regions, notably in North America and eastern Asia, and occassionally in the tropics. Its nutritious fruit has been enjoyed by humans around the world for thousands of years and is commonly preserved by making jams, jellies and wines. The species native to our region, V. labrusca, V. riparia and V. vulpina all provide important food  for birds, bears, deer, and other wildlife. Young grape leaves are edible and are a source of tannin when older. The vines may be used for basketry. Give thanks for the gifts of the grapevine!
Let's plant wild grapes together. We've got a bunch of seedlings that we propagated last fall and nursed through the winter. We'll plant them in various locations around the Eastern Prom, water them in, and wish them well. We'll continue to visit the seedling throughout the season to support their survival. There may be a seedling available for you to take home!
NOTE: Due to the ongoing international COVID-19 pandemic, preventative measures will be enforced. Please wear a mask or a cloth covering over your face, maintain physical distancing throughout the class, and do not attend if you are feeling unwell.
