About the event

Toys are important! Humans have been making toys for fun using organic, natural materials for hundreds of thousands of years.  One such toy is the slip-bark whistle.  Argue about how old it is, but there's no disagreement when it comes to how much fun it is to use these musical instruments, also known as May-whistles for the season in which they are most easily made.

Learn to make a slip-bark May-whistle, along with ring-and-stick (reminiscent of cup-and-ball) and a few other stick-based toys.  We'll also cover the basics of safe knife carving. This event is free! Bring your own knife, or don't worry: all tools and materials provided. Everyone will make a brand-new toy to take home!

We will meet in the little patch of grass next to the beach, behind the bath house.

Space in this class is limited. Preregistration, along with a paid deposit, is required to reserve…
