Join us on two Fridays in February for an immersion into outdoor/winter survival skills!
We’ll learn how to make warm, cozy emergency shelters from debris and snow, purify water in the woods, safely start a fire without using lighters or matches, use tools like knives, axes and saws, and find, gather, prepare and cook food over an open fire.
Day One: February 3, 9:30am-2:30pm
Morning: Shelter building (debris huts and snow forts), safe tool use (saws and axes), How to stay warm in the winter
Afternoon: Introduction to friction fire (bow drill, hand drill, flint and steel), fire safety and construction, winter tree I.D. for first aid, medicine and food, Pine needle tea over an open fire
Day Two: February 10, 9:30am-2:30pm
Morning - Bundle Bows (a fun toy that could be used as a hunting tool in an emergency situation), Throwing sticks and practice, Range games
Afternoon - Knife safety, Chopstick carving, Bread-on-a-stick with homemade jam - So delicious!
What to Bring: a lunch, a water bottle, and a backpack/day pack to carry your things. Remember to dress for the weather (in layers) and dress to be outdoors all day! Wear hiking boots or sneakers with good traction.
