About the event

Blacksmithing is an age-old human skill that was developed in a variety of forms around the world. At its simplest, wrought iron or steel is heated until it is soft enough to be shaped by hammer and anivl into different useful tools, including tools, nails, hooks, hangers, furniture, knives, and more.

Join us for an introduction to blacksmithing. Learn how to navigate the forge, safely heat and treat wrought iron, and use a hammer and anvil to shape the metal into useful tools. Potential projects include coat hooks, plant hangers, fire-pokers, craft awls, s-hooks, and more. Marshall and Jonah of Maple Hill Metalworks will instruct. $80 includes all required tools, materials, and tuition.

Space in this class is limited to 4 participants. Preregistration, along with a paid deposit, is required to reserve a spot in the class. Deposits may be fully refunded in the event of a cancellation a week or more before the class, if the space is filled. Refunds for last-minute cancellations are unfortunately not available. Please plan accordingly. Contact Rewild Maine at (207) 449-7738 or rewildmaine@gmail.com if you have any questions.

NOTE: Due to the ongoing international COVID-19 pandemic, preventative measures will be strictly enforced.  Please wear a mask or a cloth covering over your face, maintain physical distancing throughout the class, and do not attend if you are feeling unwell.
