Cold-Process Soap Making

Humans have been making and using soap in various forms for thousands of years. According to one legend, it was created when ash (transformed into lye with rainwater) and animal fat mixed together and ran down into the Euphrates. This area became known as an excellent spot to bathe! My grandmother and her grandmothers made all of their soaps at home using rainwater, wood ash, and animal fats. I have continued this tradition, although I use commercially prepared lye, plant based fats, and essential oils and spices for natural scents and colors.  If you have sensitivities to commercial soaps, especially the ingredients found in laundry detergent, homemade soap may be the solution for you!

Join us in continuing the tradition of homemade soaps! Learn the basics of cold-process handmade soapmaking. I'll demonstrate the methods, the chemistry, and share my knowledge of soap making. Everyone gets a bar of soap to take home!

$45 includes all required materials, tuition, a flight of kombucha from Root Wild Kombuchery, and a tip for the bartender.

Space in this class is limited. Preregistration, along with a paid deposit, is required to reserve a spot in the class. Deposits may be fully refunded in the event of a cancellation a week or more before the class, if the space is filled. Refunds for last-minute cancellations are unfortunately not available.
