About the event

Among the oldest known discovered spoons is one that ages 21,000 years. Eating food with spoons is truly an ancient human skill! No special knives required: we can use a glowing coal from the campfire to burn the hole for the bowl, and a utility knife, or carving knife, (or knapped stone saw) to craft the body of the spoon.  This is a simple, safe introduction to the wide world of wood carving. If you've done it before, come again and practice!

Learn basic knife safety, several different fundamental carving techniques, and how to use a burning coal from the fire to make a spoon bowl. $35 includes all required tools, materials, and tuition. Also, carving knives will be available for purchase.

Space in this class is limited. Preregistration, along with a paid deposit, is required to reserve a spot in the class. Deposits may be fully refunded in the event of a cancellation a week or more before the class, if the space is filled. Refunds for last-minute cancellations are unfortunately not available. Please plan accordingly. Contact Rewild Maine at (207) 449-7738 or rewildmaine@gmail.com if you have any questions.

NOTE: Due to the ongoing international COVID-19 pandemic, preventative guidelines will be adhered to. Please wear a mask or a cloth covering over your face, maintain physical distancing throughout the class, and do not attend if you are feeling unwell. This class will be held entirely outdoors. Please dress appropriately. There will be a fire for warmth.
