About the event
Northern white cedar, also known as arbor-vitae, is a special tree. Its wood is naturally resistant to rot and insect damage; its oils may be used as cleansers, disinfectants, hair preparations, insecticides, liniment, room sprays, and soft soaps, and its bark may be used to make boats, hats and baskets.
Learn to weave cedar bark into a custom-fitted knife sheath with belt loop! We'll cover basic identification, safe and regenerative gathering practices, materials processing and storage, bark-stripping and weaving techniques. Bring your own knife - or pruners/snippers/scissors - for a custom fit! $25 includes all tools and materials, and one fermented beverage. Knives available for purchase $10 and up.
Urban Farm Fermentory serves kombucha, jun, cider, mead, and beer with a focus on gruits (a beer style using few or no hops). Their tasting room features 22 rotating taps, with selections shifting seasonally. Pull up a seat, have a drink, and experience a taste of culture!
