About the event
Buckskin, traditionally, was a term used to describe hair- and grain-free handmade leather or suede. Â "Buck" refers to the process of using lye or wood-ash to loosen the animal's fur and hair; buckskin does not necessarily have to be made using the hide of a male deer. Â Humans have been using animal skins to create versatile fabric for hundreds of thousands of years.
Study a basic overview of the intensive process required to turn animal skins into leather, and learn  techniques required to sew with buckskin. We'll use brain-tanned deerskin buckskins to craft pouches or change purses. Everyone will make a unique buckskin pouch to take home. $50 includes all required tools, hand-made materials and one fermented beverage.
Urban Farm Fermentory serves kombucha, jun, cider, mead, and beer with a focus on gruits (a beer style using few or no hops). Their tasting room features 22 rotating taps, with selections shifting seasonally. Pull up a seat, have a drink, and experience a taste of culture!
