About the event
So-called Oriental or "round-leaved" bittersweet is a creeping vine with inedible berries that is considered invasive in North America. Frustrating to gardeners and arborists, bittersweet is considered a largely useless bane on wild land.
We can use traditional harvesting techniques to tend Asian bittersweet in the wild: harvesting material for baskets while controlling and suppressing future damaging growth. Come!
We'll concentrate on removing the bittersweet as completely as possible from the landscape. Then, stay to learn how to weave bittersweet into a beautiful, useful basket.
We'll meet in the parking lot of the East End Beach. Dress appropriately, and bring a lunch if you think you may want one, and bring pruners and work gloves if you've got 'em, but don't worry if you don't. We've got 'em. Make your basket as big as you want/can.
