About the event

Toys are important! Humans have been making toys for fun using organic, natural materials for hundreds of thousands of years.  One such toy is the slip-bark whistle.  Argue about how old it is, but there's no disagreement when it comes to how much fun it is to use these musical instruments, also known as May-whistles for the season in which they are most easily made.

Learn to make a slip-bark May-whistle, along with ring-and-stick balero (reminiscent of cup-and-ball) and a few other stick-based toys.  We'll also cover the basics of safe knife carving. Everyone will make a brand-new toy to take home!

Preregistration, along with a paid deposit, is required to reserve a spot in the class. Deposits may be fully refunded in the event of a cancellation a week or more before the class, if the space is filled. Refunds for last-minute cancellations are unfortunately not available. Please plan accordingly. Contact Rewild Maine at (207) 449-7738 or rewildmaine@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Rewild Maine is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We depend on donations from the community to offer free classes and workshops and we are grateful for your support.
